Common Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule online any time, or call us at (231) 780-4700.

What are your hours?

Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Tuesday 7:00 am – 4:00 pm; Friday 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. We are closed Saturday and Sunday.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept many vision and medical plans. You can search our list of accepted insurance, and if you don't see yours, give us a call and we'll be happy to help.

Why was my exam billed to my medical insurance?

Our doctors are medical providers who specialize in managing the health of your eyes, in addition to providing vision care. The comprehensive exams they perform qualify as medical exams, so your visit will often be billed to your medical insurance unless otherwise specified. Your vision plan (VSP, EyeMed, Davis, etc.) can still be used toward your glasses or contact lenses.

About refractions: During your exam, we perform a refraction to determine your prescription and your best corrected vision. Insurance often considers this a non-covered service. When it does, the refraction charge is billed to you after insurance has been billed.

Why not my vision plan? Vision plans such as VSP, EyeMed, and Davis are more like discount plans that offer basic coverage for a glasses or contact lens prescription. They don't cover the in-depth medical exams our doctors perform, so an exam is typically billed to your vision plan only when it includes no health findings.

What if I don't have insurance?

We offer self-pay pricing. An eye exam ranges from $155–$230 depending on the complexity of the exam, and foreign body removal is $325. See our self-pay pricing for details.

Is a contact lens fitting included in my eye exam?

A contact lens fitting is separate from the eye exam. The fee is $75 for existing contact lens wearers (new or established patients) and $125 for a new contact lens fit and teach. This fee applies to patients with or without insurance, though some insurance plans cover part of it. See our contact lens fees for details.

What should I bring to my eye exam?

Please bring your insurance card, your current glasses and/or contact lenses, and a list of any medications you take.

Do you see children?

Yes! We provide children's eye exams and are happy to care for the whole family.
